Yea…I’ll say it, I’m a bloody wanker! In my Home automation series in part 3 about the Shelly relays, I told you, you might need to give up your physical switch to gain the smart functions. It’s not completely true, since you can indeed wire it so, that it works in parallel. Basically you need a parallel connection between I and O on the shelly and the wires of your physical switch (careful, works only on garage doors, not mains). Now, I wired everything according to the schematic I had in mind… turns out, one of my wires slipped off from a clicker connector and I thought it just wouldn’t work, so I didn’t bother you with it. I’m sorry!
This should be a lesson for all of you. Don’t do things like me – the resident orangutan, but always atleast triple check everything! Not only will you save yourself a lot of trouble, you might also prevent a fire in your home – or electrocution.
