Why 0.5? It’s easy, because well this is just a few thoughts. I always wanted my home to be ‘clever’ atleast a little bit. Then I heard about Google Home and started looking around, to be honest I got confused with all the terms like ‘hubs’ and ‘base units’ and god knows what.
So first of all, you have to understand one thing, as long as you’re OK to use your wifi, you don’t need no HUBS or BASE UNITS. This is for when you decide the load on your wifi is too much and perhaps that’s a thing if you either have a very old router, or you plan using a fuckton of smart devices.
The first thing that comes to mind when you think of a smart home is Lighting. Honestly, this is more than you can imagine, because you can do all kinds of stuff with just a few smart bulbs that cost next to nothing and will drastically improve your quality of life. Imagine you wake up in the morning, your alarm just went off and the lights are now set to a soft lighting with orange tones, which is nice to your eyes and in half an hour they go to daylight blue-ish. Nice, huh?
Imagine that. It’s the easiest thing you can do. Now, I have a dog (and you might hear about her later) and I love one thing, after sun sets my lights go red – this is because the dog can sleep under red lights properly and I can actually see in red lights just as good as under white lights. Fun huh?
Having done your lighting, you can advance to garage doors or perhaps the electric gate to your driveway. There’s one thing that bothered me all the time. That’s the radio fob thingie. There’s a lot of houses around me. So the signal gets disturbed every now and then. Then I sit in my car pressing the button like a madman.
Now this is over. There are quite a few wireless relays on market now. You can use these to control this kind of devices. I’ll show you how in upcomming parts. For now, just think about it, you pull up to your driveway the home ‘recognizes’ you and opens the gate, the garage door and if it’s dark, turns on lights in your garage… cool? I think so!
Some of these things are rather advanced, some of these are not. There’s even some plug and play solutions. Now, you might have a hot water circulation system in your home and how do you turn it on or off? I guess you either keep it on at all time, or you might have a timed outlet. If you want to make your life easier, you might want to have a scheduled smart outlet and also, put this in your Google Home app. Again, I’ll show you how.
Very soon 🙂
